Entry level accounting clerks follow a limited range of procedures in performing operations such as compiling figures, making calculations, extensions, and recapitulations, posting, checks, tracing ordinary discrepancies and reconciling routine statements. They also may have payroll responsibilities and may compile data for reports. High level accounting clerks follow a broad range of established procedures requiring an extensive knowledge of cost accounting and general accounting. They also prepare regular and special reports and analyses and may act as group leader supervising entry level clerks.
Work Settings
Office setting. The average workweek is 40 hours. Many manufacturers operate 24 hours/day, this position usually works during first shift.
Education
Associate's degree or 1-5 years of training involving both on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers.
